Nagaur city lies about midway between Jodhpur and Bikaneris at a distance of 135 kms from Jodhpur. It's a secure desert city that dates back to the 4th century AD.

Every year in the month of January-February Nagaur fair is held in the city. Weeklong cattle fair, it is the second biggest fair in India. It is especially famous for its puppeteers. Another fairs held in the city are Ramdeoji Ka Mela and Tejaji ka Mela in February and August respectively.

The prime attraction of the Nagaur city is the Ahhichatragarh Fort, a medium sized fort. Built by the Mughal Emperors Akbar and Shahjahan this fort has palaces, mosques, temples, baolis (reservoirs), water systems, fountains, open terraces, dating to the time of Mughals. It also has a Mughal Garden that is still retaining its original pleasant appearance. Also inside the fort are Dominating the landscape is a five-domed mosque built by Akbar. Also adorning the walls of the fort and ceilings of the palaces are beautiful painting.
