Lonavala is a beautiful hill station blessed with valleys, hills, Milky WaterFalls, Lush Greenery and pleasant cool winds. It is located about 64 km away from Pune and 96 km away from Mumbai. It is at a height of 620m above sea level and it is the most favorite monsoon picnic spot of Puneits and Mumbaikars. Khandala which is another hill station neighbouring Lonavala are called twin hill stations together. They are situated in the Sahyadri ranges that demarcate the Deccan Plateau and the Konkan coast and sprawl over an approximate area of 38 sq. km. Both hill stations are popular holiday destinations during the monsoons as the countryside turns lush green with waterfalls and ponds during this season.

Climate in Lonavala The weather in Lonavala is pleasant throughout the year. Summers (April-June) are mild, while winters (November-February) are cool. The temperature falls to a minimum of 12°C in winters, while in summers, the temperature rises to a maximum of 36°C. It experiences heavy southwestern monsoon rains between June and September.
The Best time to visit Lonavala is the winter season (November to February) but if you want to enjoy the real beauty visit it during monsoon or just after monsoon.
How to Reach Lonavala
By Air : Pune airport is the nearest airport to reach Lonavala by air.
By Train :Lonavala lies on the broad gauge rail network between Mumbai and Pune. All express trains plying between the two cities stop at Lonaval. There is also an hourly shuttle service for Pune. Some of the daily express trains that pass through Lonavala are:
By Road : Lonavala is situated about 64 km away from Pune and 96 km away from Mumbai and lies on the Mumbai Pune Expressway.
Maharashtra State Transport runs S.T., Asiad, Deluxe and A/C Deluxe buses from Dadar T.T. in Mumbai to Pune at regular interval of 15 minutes, also there are lot of private bus operators offering bus services both from Pune and Mumbai. One can board a Volvo Bus from Mumbai to Pune or vice-versa which ply on the beautiful Mumbai-Pune Expressway and get down at Lonavala Exit on the Highway. They charge anywhere between Rs.170 to Rs.250 depending on the season.
There are Taxis available from Dadar T.T. in Mumbai and from Pune. One can hire a full taxi or take a share cab from Dadar or Vashi in Mumbai and Pune Station or Chinchwad in Pune. It would take around two and a half hours from Mumbai to Lonavala and one hour from Pune to Lonavala. There are also buses shuttling between Lonavala and Khandala.
