Jodhpur

Located in western Rajasthan this bustling desert city is the second largest in Rajasthan after Jaipur. The capital of the warrior Rathores the City of Jodhpur was founded by Rao Jodha the chief of the Rathore clan in 1459 after whom the city is named. The Jodhpur is popularly known as the "Sun City" as sun shines very bright here through out the year. Jodhpur is also known as the Blue City, an apt name as most houses in the old city are shades of blue.

Jaipur

Jaipur, popularly known as Pink city (because of the colour of the stone used exclusively in the walled city) is capital of state of Rajasthan. Jaipur was founded in AD 1727 by Sawai Jaisingh II and it is the first planned city of India. It was planned by Vidhyadhar Bhattacharya, a Bengali architect, in a grid system with wide straight avenues, roads, streets and lanes and uniform rows of shops on either side of the main bazaars, all arranged in nine rectangular city sectors (chokris). Each grid consists of a square, and these have been planned so that, at the heart of the city is the City Palace.

Udaipur

Udaipur, the city of lakes, set amidst the Aravalli Ranges of Rajasthan. Known for its lakes, Udaipur also called 'the city of lakes'. The beautiful elevated hills and the picturesque lakes make a picture-perfect backdrop to the Udaipur city. Udaipur is regarded as one of the most romantic cities of the World and subsequently, also known as the 'Venice of East'. In context of Rajasthan, Udaipur is the second most-sought after tourist destination of the state, the first being Jaipur. Udaipur had been the capital of Mewar for centuries.

Jaisalmer

Jaisalmer, the "Golden City", is located on the westernmost frontier of India in the state of Rajasthan. Jaisalmer is close to the border with Pakistan and known for its proximity to the Thar Desert. It is very colorful, vibrant & energetic and must visit city in Rajasthan. Jaisalmer - also known as "the land of sand" is famous for its exotic sand dunes, the Fort, friendly people and interesting lifestyle. Bhati Rajput ruler Rawal Jaisal, after whom the city finds its name, founded Jaisalmer in 1156 AD.

Ajmer

Ajmer city is an oasis wrapped in the green hills situated about 130 km south west of Jaipur. Ajmer is a popular pilgrimage centre for the Hindus as well as Muslims. Especially famous is the Dargah Sharif-tomb of the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti, which is equally revered by the Hindus and Muslims. The city was founded by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th Century A.D. and continued to be a major centre of the Chauhan power till 1193 A.D. when Prithviraj Chauhan lost it to Mohammed Ghauri. Since then, Ajmer became home to many dynasties.

Mount Abu

Mount Abu, the only hill station in Rajasthan is situated at a average height of 1,219 meters above the sea level. Mount Abu is renowned as the "oasis in the desert" as its tallness are abode to shallow rivers, blue lakes, gurgling waterfalls and green vegetation. The world famous tourist destination is known for its exquisitely carved marble Delwara Jain temples and natural beauty world over.

Bikaner

Located in the north-west part of Rajasthan, Bikaner city was founded by Rao Bika Ji in 1488 AD. More popularly called the camel country, Bikaner is renowned for the best riding camels in the world. It also boasts of having one of the largest Camel research and breeading farm in the world.

The exotic camel safaris, its gorgeous forts and the worship of thousands of holy rats at Karni Mata temple are some of the most interesting aspects of Bikaner. Dotted with scores of sand dunes, Bikaner retains the medieval grandeur that permeates the city's lifestyle.

Pushkar

Pushkar is a small and beautiful town set in a valley just about 14 km from Ajmer in Rajasthan. It is famous for its Brahma temple which is the only Brahma temple of India. The famous Brahma temple is located at Pushkar Lake which is situated in the middle of the town.

The Pushkar lake is considered to be one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in India. According to a legend this lake was formed where Lord Brahma, the lord of creation, dropped a lotus on the day of the full moon. The town is visited by thousands of devotees who come to pray and take a holy dip in the sacred waters of the Pushkar Lake during Karthik Poornima, which falls generally in the month of October and November every year.

Alwar

Beautifully situated amidst the craggy and jagged rocks, Alwar in the Aravalli region presents a beautiful mix of different traditions. This hilly terrain in the state of Rajasthan possesses a rich history, which dates back to 1500 BC.This rock fringed tiny locale presents a pebbly as well as a verdant landscape. Formerly known as Mewat, Alwar gained as remarkable seat of art and culture under the patronage of Maharaja Pratap Singh. Like all the princely states of that time, this strong hold of the Rajputs also came under the British rule and remained as the same till India got freedom.

Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh, also called Chittaur, from the 7th century to the 16th, was the capital of Mewar under the Rajputs. Chittaur evokes memories of great heroism and sacrifice by Rajput men and women in the intermittent battles that they had to fight against invaders from Northwest or Delhi. Chittaur witnessed both the ravages of war and the triumphs of the spirit. Allaudin Khilji who coveted Queen Padmini of Chittaur, invaded the city in 1303 A.D. Queen Padmini and the women of the court sacrificed themselves in a pyre of fire rather than submit to anybody.
